Our lives were changed on November 22, 2006. This is a glimpse of our journey through grief, healing, love, and pain.

I love you guys.
Thank you, Heidi, for your helpful updates on Mason's condition. We are thankful for how well he is doing (although we know how painful his wounds are) and for how faithfully the Lord is answering prayers (He loves His children so much). We will continue to hold him in special prayer. May the Lord's grace and strength continue to uphold and sustain you all . . . and may your faith grow in precious ways as you rely upon Him. And may many come to faith in Christ as a result of all this!!! AMEN
We are heart-broken for your family and can't imagine the pain you are going through. You've been in our thoughts and prayers almost constantly since we heard the news. We hope Mason has a quick recovery. We will try to make it to the funeral, but we will have to see how it will work in Barry's class schedule. I really wish we lived closer so we could bring y'all a meal. Let me know if there is anything that we can do to help. Know that you have our deepest sympathies, and that we are praying for God's peace and comfort to fill your hearts and ease the grief.
Love, The Bishop Family
Dear Hagens,
You've not been out of our prayers and hearts since we heard of the accident on Wednesday. Know that prayers are rising up for you in Houston, Colorado Springs, DC and College Station from all of us Faulkners. We trust you already have stories of how God has sent angels to minister to you as He did with His Son in Gethsemane. We love you.
Dear Mark, Kristin, Hannah, Heidi, Mason and Madison,
We love you guys so very much and we're so very, very sorry. Mason, lots of folks up here in Portland are praying for your recovery. And Marshall - "the Moose!" - I keep singing Keith Green's song, There is a Redeemer. The Moose is now standing in glory, seeing His face, serving his King forever in that holy place. Praise God!
And to the entire Hagen family:
2Th 2:16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, 17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
This is our prayer for you all along with the next verse in chapter 3; we pray for you that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you...
Our hearts are with you as a family and church. We weep and grieve together with you, but not as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. For this reason we also rejoice together with you.
We love you and will see you Wednesday or Thursday. Love, The Olson Family
Dear Hagen Family,
You are in our prayers and thoughts.
Love,
The Patel Family
Dear Mark, Kristin & family,
We just now heard the tragic news, and will pass it along to others here. We'll agree with your prayer that God somehow will use this for his glory and your good; somehow. And we pray for your comfort.
Love from Aggieland,
Rodger & Cheri Lewis
Mary, Bill and myself look forward to being with you and your family. We hope to arrive on Tues. It has been difficult not being closer and supporting you and your family. We love you all.
Anne
We love you all and we're praying for you often. I (angela) put a post on my blog today in Marshall's memory and I hope you'll go and read it when you have time.

Sweet Hagen Family,
My heart is aching for each of you...each of you in a unique way. Mark, I know how proud you were of your son. What a blessing that you provided him with wisdom and guidance throughout his years. You brought him to a saving knowledge of Christ at a young age and his life and death WILL, (as Kristin and others are praying) make an impact for The Kingdom. Kristin, I can not even begin to imagine your heartache. Your loving, nurturing, gentle sweet spirit sustained Marshall for so many, many years. You are a model mother and wife for so many of us. Rest confidently in the fact that Marshall knew, without a doubt, that his mommy loved him unconditionally...the greatest gift a mother can bestow upon a child. Sweet sisters, your brother admired, adored and respected you so very much. He was blessed by your encouragement, daily, even when he was miles away serving his country, I am SURE. Madison, you were so special to Marshall...NEVER forget that. Sweet Mason, bless your persevering body and soul. I pray that your pain, inside and out, will be miraculously minimized. Know that MANY people are praying for you every minute of every day. All of us who love the Hagen family and who have admired your steadfast spirit of living WAY ABOVE this world are once again blessed by your strength. PLEASE allow each of us to now bless YOU in all the many forms and fashions that are presented to you as you face this difficult time. Rest in God, in your family and your friends and let us now carry as much of your burden as possible. I love you, Sweet Hagen family, and I am on my knees......
Kathy Knowles
We are deeply sorry for your loss and are praying for His comfort for your family, and for Mason's healing, during this very difficult time.
sincerely,
Adam and Sally Dewhirst
Mark, Kristin, Hannah, Heidi, Mason and Madison,
We are weeping with you and holding you up in prayer. We ask, know, and believe that God will use Marshall's death for His glory and to bring others to Him. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His godly ones." Psalm 116:15. We will be praying specifically for Mason, and we have a friend in our church who has been through burn recovery if he ever needs someone to talk with. We love you...
Tim & Karen Haring
Dearest Hagens,
Our deepest sympathies and sorrow are with you. You have been, are and will continue to be in our prayers...."I know that my Redeemer lives and that in end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, Yet in my flesh I will see God, I myself will see him. With my own eyes- I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!" May our Redeemer hold you close and may his healing hands be upon Mason....all our love, The Needhams
We are heartbroken for your family. We are praying for all of you that you will feel surrounded by God's love and that He will use this tragedy for His glory. We are so sorry for the loss of Marshall and for Mason's injuries. I know many prayers are being said for you and I know they will be honored.
I sent this to Hannah and wanted to share it with the whole family.
We have gotten the news out to all the pastors in The Great Commission world for prayer support. When Terry gave me the news it was crushing as I couldn't even start to understand what you and your family was feeling. I imagine the guilt that Mason must be feeling and trust that God's grace is poured our in even greater measures on him right now. I do know what Mason is feeling physically because of the exposion I was involved in, so I can pray specificaly with empathy for that. My situation ended up not needing skin grafts but they never know until they are done dealing with the old dead skin first. I have never before in my life experienced so much pain. It felt like the pain medicine was not doing it's job. But, at the same time what I experienced in God's grace can be only described as supernatural. The grace that I had experienced in the past would not have been enough for this new situation I faced. Yet God gave a greater grace that was enough. Looking back I wouldn't trade the pain I experienced if it meant missing that supernatural experience. I now know that I can face my own death some day. Not becaue the grace given during my burns would be enough but because I have experienced a greater grace being poured out to meet the exact need of the moment. As I reflect on your situation I can't begin to know what is needed but I trust that what I experienced for a lesser need will be experienced by you all for your greater need. I know it will be enough. We love you all, Greg and Christine.
Mark, Kristin, Hannah, Heidi, Mason, and Madison:
We are really anxious to see you and to just " love on you". We pray for all of you constantly as we grieve with you.
Our words seem so empty, but these words seem to show us that Paul must have known difficult times also; especially [perplexed but not in despair].
2Corinth. 4:8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed.
18- So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Dearly beloved of Christ, I pray that the words of the Saints of old and the venerable dead will bring comfort in this your most dreadful hour.

"Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy and shall break
In blessings on your head.
Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for His grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.
His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower."

For love’s strength standeth in love’s sacrifice.
And He who suffers most has most to give."

"Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ"
NKJV
And this is my prayer for you. That the One who took away will be the One Who would fill to overflowing that which would honor the memory of Marshall and give glory to Christ. That He will be your consolation and surety. I believe that the Sovereign Lord could not wait another minute to dress His paradise. He who is perfect in will is also perfect in action. So, our loss here below is Heaven's gain above. Surely, one day we also will go hand in hand to the One who loves us best. And then we will see and understand the wounds He gives and the gifts He leaves behind.

Hagen family,
Ty and I were so grieved to hear of the tragedy that your family is going through. I can't imagine the heartbreak that you must be feeling. We pray that as you get some time and distance from the crisis that you will be able to look back and see how God has used this for His glory. We can see from this blog site what a testimony your family is for God. As friends we want to minister to you, but as I visit this site you have also ministered to us. We love you and our prayers are with you.
I know Marshall is looking on the beauty of the glory of the Lord.

Hagens - I wish I could write something down to express how sorry I am that all of you are going through this extremely painful loss. But I feel any words I can write are trivial. I am thinking of you all constantly. Love, Rachel (Hagen) Dooley
Uncle Mark, Aunt Kristi and beloved cousins,
I was so saddened to hear the news about the accident, and the great loss of Marshall. I truly can't imagine the pain you are all going through. I pray for you all daily that God would give you strength and hope. I only wish we were closer so we could be there for you physically. Jocelyn and I looked into the possibility of somehow going to Texas, but are unable to at this time. Mason, you are a very strong young man. God has great plans for you! Just keep drawing near to him and he will be your strength and your comforter. Take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. We love you so much!
Thank you for keeping us informed about how everyone is doing. We will continue to pray for all of you. We love your whole family!

Dear Mark, Kristin, Hannah, Heidi, Mason and Madison,
We wanted to let you know that you are in our hearts and in our prayers. We are deeply saddened but at the same rejoice that Marshall is now with our Lord and also rejoice that Mason's life was spared. HE must have a mighty job for them both. We do pray for healing both physical and spiritual because we know both will take time to heal. We will also pray for peace, it's hard to understand God's plan but HE does have a Master Plan. We will pray for each one of you and for your extended family as well. We pray that through this time you will feel HIS presence and that HE will change the lives of many.
With all our love,
Sean, Eva
Austin, Andrea and Allyson Lynes

Dear Hagens,
I'm a friend of Kim's - just want you to know that your situation was shared in our morning service at Faith Memorial Church in Lancaster, with members of two Bible Study groups, and has been added to the staff prayer list. My heart aches for all of you - I am so sorry. I am lifting all of you up in prayer, every hour on the hour - have a 'signal' on my pc at work, to remind me. My prayer is that you will all feel His presence and His comfort, and that Mason will remain strong during his painful therapy. I don't know how else I can help from Ohio, but please tell Kim that if there's anything I can do from here....just let me know.
In Christ's love and with deepest sympathy,
Rhonda Berkshire
What a difficult pain to bear, much less at this time of year!! Our hearts hurt for you, and yet we know that only God can give your heart the grace and courage you really need to press on. May His grace overshadow your pain, and may the hope of heaven be just that: your hope! We will also pray for Mason, that God would provide both physical and emotional healing.
In His soverignty, by faith...

KRISTIN, The MITI family joins in prayer for you and your family as we too grieve the loss of a child of our Austin-MITI family. You are all in our hearts and on our minds. We claim the words of Ps.139:16, reassuring us that the Lord has held every one of Marshall's days safely in HIS keeping! We love you and commit to keeping you and yours in the prayers of the AISD-MITI family. ~Carolyn Windham, Austin MITI.
Psalm 139:13-18 "For you formed my inward parts, You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes beheld my unformed substance, being yet unformed. And in thy book they were all written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more in number than the sand. When I awake, I am still with thee."
Dear Kim and the Hagen Family,
I am so very sorry to hear of your sudden loss. I will continue to pray for His comfort for everyone.
With Deepest Sympathy,

Hello Hagens: Please know that our church and friends here in Nashville are praying for you. Your family has always been a beautiful and inspiring example to so many of a family that loves and serves the Lord. I know that in this great heartbreak God's grace will sustain you. I pray you find His mercies to be new every morning to give you the strength, day by day, to press on. We just groan and ache for you all, especially for our friends Mason and Madison. Though we did not know Marshall, it seems that he had a truer sense of his purpose than many aquire in a long life time. I think of my favorite hymn, For all the Saints, and see Marshall as a faithful warrior enjoying the sweet calm of paradise. I know that you will miss him terribly, but can take comfort not only in his eternal salvation, but also in how you lived your lives as a family. You treasured each other and eliminated a lot of needless clutter from your lives. He was a very blessed young man. We love you. The Powell Family
Dear Hagens,
I was shocked to hear such tragic news. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers. God has wonderful plans for all of you. He will lift you out of these sad times and bring you closer to him.
With love,
Felix Rivero, Friend of Richard.
Dear Hagen Family,
We are holding your sweet family up in prayer daily. Your loss is unimaginable. I pray the Lord will sustain, comfort, and guide you as you go forward. We are praying for Mason's swift recovery.
All our love,
Cindy, Ben, and Kelly Barnes
Thank you for all the updates, photos, funeral notes and poem by Will. Even up here in Wisconsin I have felt more connected to what is happening there in TX. And though miles separate us (and always have), I pray to God for you daily, and I want you to know that good things are happening in my heart and in our whole fam as a result. I've been reviewing Jn.3:16 with our 6 and 3 yr olds and reviewing what the Bible says about our eternal home. I tell them about "hope", my personal theme this past week. I'm so thankful for Jesus coming to earth and giving me hope.
I love you all, Hagens. Sending love from our whole family, Marla
Dear Hagen Family,
We are deeply sorry for your loss. Although we do not know the Hagen family personally, we know of them through Derek Ballek, our coworker. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Respectfully,
Derek's Friends at URS Corporation.
Dear Mark, Kristin, Hannah, Heidi, Mason, and Madison:
It goes without saying, but we will say it anyway ... "we really love you guys!"
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Prov 17:17 (NIV)
We are thankful that the Lord has put us in your lives to help in a time like this. We are willing to serve you all in any way and are grieving with you all. We are praying for God's comfort, for Mason's healing, and for God's glory to be shown through this event.
Love,
Jeff, Beth, Emily, Callaway, Avery and "Baby" Kobes
Dear Kristi & Mark & Family -
We were so sad to hear of the tragedy. Marshall was only a baby when we lived in Riverside Green w/you. We pray for healing for Mason & for the hole in your hearts. "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" states, "...strength for today, bright hope for tomorrow...". What a blessed hope heaven is!! May you experience God's comfort & peace constantly.
Our Love, Jim & Jeanie Snedeker
Mark and Kristi - I'm speechless because nothing I can say will take the pain away and I know from experience right now that's what you want more than anything. As impossible as it may be on a day to day basis, I pray that all of you will see God's hand in the midst of this all. He is there and He will surround you with His love. Even if no one else fully understands what you are going through, God understands and is carrying you. I'm praying for you and the kids.
Dear Hagens,
We have been praying for you all here in Tokyo since we heard of the tragedy. James and Charlie informed us right away. We were so shocked and saddened.
Thank you for keeping us updated on Mason's recovery. We will keep praying for him, and for the rest of you - for God to comfort you and heal each one of you.

Just checking in again to let you all know I am thinking of you all. Please let me know if there is anything I can do from NY. Also, Heidi and Hannah - send me your email addresses if you get this message and have a minute. Love, Rachel (Hagen) Dooley
Heidi, thank you for the updates. They make us feel like we are not so far away. Let us know if there is anything we can do. Give our love to your Mom and Dad and the rest of the family.
Much love, Anne (Mark's sister) & Tom
Dearest Kristin and Mark,
Since the night we saw Mark on the news (which is when we first found out about the tragedy) you have been in our thoughts and prayers. The blog that Heidi is maintaining has been so helpful in keeping us updated. Marshall's funeral was an incredible tribute to him, as well as to the family who loved him so much. The poem that his friend wrote was particularly insightful and deeply moving. I am so glad it is posted in the blog.
We love your whole family and have been trying to get up to the hospital...I (Niki) have had a paint job with a deadline and am hoping to be done today. John, likewise, would like to come if we can hit visiting hours. Again, we love you all and are praying for God's goodness and mercy to continually sustain each member of your family, as well as all of Marshall's friends.
Your sister in Christ,
Niki Ratliff
I recently suffered a second degree burn and have new empathy for Mason. It is sooooooooooo painful. Mason, I am so glad you get to go home! I can't imagine your pain...
Thank you, My Heidi, for your updates. Tney are helpful in our helplessness.
The service was so honoring to Marshall.........
Love to your family..........
Heidi,
Thank you so much for your continual updates. Your love for your brother just oozes through every word you write. I am so glad that you all get to go home, and what a blessing that both you and your mom are nurses...Mason will have such excellent care!
We continue to pray for you all and send you all our love.
The Ratliff Family
Dear Hagen Family-
We are thankful your son Mason is on the road to recovery and send our deepest sympathy for your son Marshall as they have been in our thoughts and prayers since that day.
You do not know our family, but a friend sent me the email from the soccer club because I had told her about an accident that I had witnessed the day before Thanksgiving on 1327.
My family and I were traveling right behind your son's van and called 911 within seconds of the impact. People immediatley rushed to their aide and tried to help, as we stayed on the line with 911. I read someone called them Good Samaritans, but I would have to call them Guardian Angels. They didn't hesitate, they had no concern for themselves, they did it without thinking and saved Mason's life along with others.
Life passes in the blink of an eye and God whispered Marshall's precious name that day. Again, our prayers are with you all, and thank you for allowing anyone to send you comments, it's meant alot to us to be able to do this.
Dear Hagen family,
I was deeply saddened to hear about your loss. My children are members of AUCSC and I just got the email from Brian Dunkle with the info on this terrible tragedy. I do not know if you remember me, but I was a member of Live Oak Church as a single back in the early 90's. My family will keep yours in prayer for the continued recovery of Mason and for God to comfort you at this time of your loss. Thanks for being such an inspiration in faith and may God continue to bless your family.
Paul Ellis
i love you!
Dear Hagens - We are so sorry for the loss and we will be praying for you.
We're thinking about and praying for you this Christmas day . . . may the hope that the Christ child brings shine upon your hearts to encourage and strengthen you. The Lord is good and His mercy endures forever. May the New Year bring you healing and peace. We miss you guys!!!

Frank, Konni, Alex & Anna
