Will Lafferty, a friend of Mason and Marshall's for the last ten years wrote a poem expressing his view and love for Marshall.
the young warrior
the righteous young warrior
with no appetite for evil
see him soar over the mountains
no taste for lust
he glides through the trees
no cravings for drunkenness
he swoops down over the waters
no thirst for depravity
see him fly higher and higher
the brave young warrior
the reigns of this life could not hold him back
resistant to the seductively sedative bridle of our emasculating society
he bucks the attempts to be saddled by a pacifistic rider
driven on by the strength of his muscles, the blood in his veins, the breath in his lungs, he yearns for his savior
he races after the wildness of our living God
the fearless young warrior
not marred by sin nor jaded by years living a menial existence
hear the roar of his hunger for adventure
a willingness to fulfill the mundane
yet hear the roar of his hunger for adventure
he looks death in the face and doesn’t flinch
he stands fearless on this earth for he stands eternally secure
the tender young warrior
his deep growl, a protector of the innocent
his ferocious jaws, a guardian of the weak
yet his loyalty unchanging, true to his family, honoring of his parents
his playfulness, a source of smiles and laughter
his soft coat, a comfort to those near him
the young warrior
he was not meant for gray hair
he was not meant for a deteriorating physique
he was not meant for a fading memory
he was not meant for old age
the young warrior was meant to live, and he lived it well
following his calling, following his dreams
the young warrior Strong in battle
he could not die in war, no, he must night die in battle.
for the war itself is not the end, but a means to live.
He returned home for a short time, but it was a return to our home, not to His
Marshall was a young warrior
Marshall is a young warrior
Marshall will be a righteous, brave, fearless, and tender, young warrior, forever
his eyes have seen the glory of his coming to his Lord

That was one of the most moving things I have ever read. It made me cry. What a wonderful legacy to leave and heart that he had. I was very blessed by that.
thanks for posting it. It captured Marshall well.
